Mid-Month Holidays

Dear friends,

Thank you so much for reading our blog. I can’t believe how quickly time has passed. The days are filled with activity, making it hard to commit to blogging. That’s a good sign that we’re fully engaged in life.

On December 5, the Power of Two project had an awesome fundraiser at the Hillsborough Racquet Club. I want to thank each and every one of you who attended the event. It was a freezing cold afternoon, but the room was warm because of a fireplace, Christmas decoration, and about 60 loving and compassionate friends and supporters. The food, provided by heart recipient Mike Miraglia’s catering service, was fabulous. Thank you to Dave, Matt, Ashley, Yasu, Naomi, Tom, Ian, Jillian, Andrew, and in some cases their partners (Danny, Ian B., Trent, Keith), for helping to put this event on without a hitch. There is so much dedicated energy to make this project have good momentum. Thanks to very generous donations from everyone, but especially Chris Kelly and Jennifer Carrico, we raised nearly $30,000. This will help staff the talented people who will make this film what it is.  Ana and I each shared our impressions of our trip to Japan.  I especially thank Marc and Andrew for their kind words, dedication to do the dreaded task of asking for money, and for believing in this project. Our friend Barbara C. allowed us to use this luxurious venue- and it was perfect.  The guys set up a huge screen to debut another 8 minute video (now on youtube.com/thepoweroftwomovie), which was fabulous. It brought me right back to the plight of the Japanese CF and transplant candidates.  I felt quite hesitant to be so public and a bit embarrassed to see myself on the screen, but when I see the faces of the doctors, the patients waiting or needing transplant, and the CF families in Japan, it relieves me because I know this effort is so much bigger than myself.

A few hours before the event, my sister in law called to say her water broke and my brother was away hiking! So, Ana took her to the hospital while we set up. It was a close call, but Ana made it. I’m so happy to report that a few hours later, at 1AM on Dec 6, we became aunts to Chloe Yuria!!!  It’s sooooo great to be alive to witness this moment. Chloe is 5 weeks premature, but beautiful and healthy. I am so grateful, as are my brother and his partner.  It is really such a miracle every time a child is born healthy.

I will write more, but I have to run to my bagpipe band party. Gotta make sushi! Please take care, stay warm, and breathe the cool air deeply, Isa
