The Power Of Two: With Every Breath – 10.11.09

On Oct. 10th & 11th, 2009, "The Power Of Two" was out in full force in Fukuoka, Japan, a beautiful city on the southern island of Kyūshū. We were there to cover Ana and Isa as they competed in the 18th Annual Japan Transplant Games, a very special sporting event that brings together organ recipients, donor families, transplant advocates and leading doctors. This year's installment welcomed athletes from Vietnam, Thailand, New Zealand and the United States, and it served as an inspiring testament to the small but mighty transplant community that is working hard for social change and acceptance in Japan. Notably, this resulting video features members from the Donor Family delegation who were honored at this year's games. In Japan, donor families struggle for recognition among the Japanese public and fight hard to combat stigma and misunderstanding. Events such as the Transplant Games give them a much needed chance to come together to find support, friendship, and validation that their decision to donate a loved one's organs was the right one.
